How to Measure for Your Perfect Fit

Accurate measurements are the secret to a bespoke gown that flatters your silhouette effortlessly. Follow our step-by-step guide below before submitting your custom order.

Before You Begin: Preparation Checklist

Soft Measuring Tape Use a flexible vinyl tailor’s tape. Avoid rigid metal tape measures.
A Friend to Help Self-measuring distorts posture. Having someone assist ensures precision.
Proper Undergarments Wear the bra, shapewear, or slips you plan to wear under your dress.
Planned Event Shoes Wear the exact heels or flats you plan to wear for accurate hem length.

The 5 Essential Measurements

Bust (Not Your Bra Band Size)

Stand relaxed with your arms resting at your sides. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust and across your shoulder blades in the back.

Tip: Keep the tape snug but comfortable—do not compress your chest, and keep the tape parallel to the floor.

Natural Waist

Locate the narrowest indentation of your torso (typically 1 to 2 inches above your belly button). Bend slightly to one side to find your natural crease. Wrap the tape comfortably around this point.

Tip: Stand straight and breathe naturally. Do not suck in your stomach, as this will result in an uncomfortably tight bodice.

Hips (Fullest Part)

Stand with your heels together. Measure around the fullest portion of your hips and buttocks, typically located 7 to 9 inches below your natural waistline.

Tip: Ensure the measuring tape remains level around the widest curve of your hip and seat area.

Hollow to Floor

Place the start of the tape at the center hollow of your collarbones (the small indentation at the base of your throat) and extend straight down over your bust to the floor.

Tip: Stand tall and look straight ahead. If you already have your event shoes, wear them while measuring or add your exact heel height.

Height & Heel Height

Stand straight against a flat wall barefoot. Measure from the top of your head down to the floor. Then, note your planned heel height (e.g., 2 inches / 5 cm) separately.

Tip: This allows our tailors to calculate overall gown proportions and hem sweep with millimeter precision.

Golden Rules for Accuracy

  • Never measure over heavy clothes: Bulky fabrics can add 1 to 2 inches to your true size.
  • Measure twice: Double-check each number to rule out any measuring discrepancies.
  • Provide units clearly: Specify whether your measurements are in inches (in) or centimeters (cm).
  • Dresses with sleeves: If you are choosing a long-sleeve style, also include your Shoulder Width, Arm Length, and Bicep Circumference in your order notes.

When placing your order, select "Custom Size" and paste your measurements directly into the Order Notes / Special Instructions field in your cart or checkout:
